Description

What's our favorite way to explore the Alps? Running from inn to inn, with our bags transported for us! Here at Alpinehikers, we've been running through the Bernese Oberland on our own for years, and we're excited to team with Doug Mayer from Run the Alps to offer these incredible inn-to-inn trail running adventures in our home region in the Alps. Our trail running tour of the Bernese Oberland will traverse some of the most famous mountain terrain anywhere in the Alps, from Grosse Scheidegg pass, along a high traverse and down to the mountain town of Grindelwald, with the North Face of the Eiger in full view. We'll run about ten miles over the course of the day, taking plenty of time to fast hike the hills, pausing frequently to take photographs, enjoy the scenery, and sample great food and drinks en route. From Grindelwald, we'll run and hike sections of the Eiger Ultra trail race route, running over the Kleine Scheidegg pass to Wengen. Our tour will finish with two days of running past high alp farms, within sight of the Jungfrau, from in Mürren, a mountain town perched atop a plateau above the Lauterbrunnen valley. Our typical day starts with a continental buffet breakfast at our inn - delicious fresh baked bread, local cheeses, cereal, fruit, coffee and juice - which gives us the energy needed for a full day of inn-to-inn trail running. Soon we'll be out on the trail, and each day there will be options for an easier or more ambitious run. Each morning, we'll bring out a variety of trail snacks for you to choose from, and many of our runs will include stops at mountain huts or alp farms where we can tank up with a hot soup or fruit torte. Most of these stages can be hiked in a full day or run in half a day, and we should finish each day with plenty of time to wash up and relax. You will have your own bedroom and luggage or a drop bag every night. In the evening we'll enjoy dinner together at our inn. These are multi-course feasts, often featuring local French and Swiss specialties, and will definitely be hearty, filling, well-earned and very delicious. We will leave one night in Grindelwald free, where you will have a chance to explore on your own. Dates don't work? Check out our Eiger Ultra, Tour Mont-Blanc Ultra, or Zermatt-Matterhorn Run trail running tours.
