Today the Tour du Mont Blanc route starts with a short transfer to Notre Dame de la Gorge, just outside of les Contamines. Old trading routes lead you on a long ascent across two lofty passes, Col du Bonhomme and Col de la Croix du Bonhomme.
An alpine hut near the pass makes a perfect lunch stop mid-day. Descend to the tiny hamlet of les Chapieux. Since the local inns are all very simple and book up early, we will arrange a private taxi to take you to the mountain village of Beaufort, where you can stay in a comfortable 4-star hotel.

At the pass, you’re greeted by an amazing view into the Veny valley and the Mont Blanc range. The Aiguille Noire de Peuterey is particularly impressive from this vantage point, and Mont Blanc itself dominates the view ahead of you. We’ll stop at the scenic Elisabetta hut for lunch, glaciers tumbling behind us, and continue down valley with a short transfer to Entreves, near the medieval village of Courmayeur, where we stay in 5-star luxury.

Day 5
Courmayeur, hike to Bonatti hut
Extra time in Courmayeur is a great way to break up the Deluxe Tour du Mont Blanc, offering a chance to either rest or take an optional dayhike high above town. Our favorite hike from Courmayeur is an extremely scenic balcony route to Bonatti hut. The views along this route are some of the most mind-blowing of the whole tour.
If you don’t want to hike though, there is plenty to do in town. The Pre St. Didier spa is one luxurious way to recharge, and our hotel also has a very nice pool and spa. Courmayeur is a great village to explore, with cobblestoned pedestrian-only alleyways filled with comfortable cafes and stylish shops. Stay in the same luxury hotel.

Day 6
Courmayeur, balcony hike to Chécrouit
A steady uphill walk up the Veny valley heads toward Elisabetta hut, tucked below the impressive Lex Blanche glacier. From below the hut, we’ll take the high route to Col Chécrouit, a high balcony walk with amazingly scenic views of Mont Blanc.
The trail heads up from the Veny valley, passing a small lakelet, Lac Chécrouit, and arrives at a very nice restaurant, la Maison Vieille, with a great, scenic outdoor seating area. When it’s time to return, you can take the nearby chairlift to the cable car down to Courmayeur.
You could also take this as a free day, relax at your hotel pool and spa, or right the Monte Bianco cable car up to the peak for high alpine views of Mont Blanc.

Day 7
Hike the Ferret pass Champex, Switzerland
A brief morning transfer takes us from Courmayeur to the end of the Ferret valley, Arnuva, where we start another beautiful hike, this time over the Ferret pass and into Switzerland.
The ascent is steady and straightforward, with plenty of opportunity to stop and enjoy the views back to Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses mountains, as well as the beautiful glaciers toward the end of the valley.
From la Fouly, we’ll arrange a private transfer to the pretty, lakeside village of Champex, where you stay at Au Club Alpin, a beautiful boutique 4-star hotel with just 7 rooms. Dinner will be on your own tonight.

Day 8
hike to Forclaz, taxi to Chamonix
Today we’ll have our choice of an easier hike or a more strenuous route. The easier route from Champex is an undulating trail through alpine pastures and pine forests, with a mid-day stop at an alpine farm with sweeping views of the Rhone valley.
Weather permitting, a more rigorous possibility leads up to the high pass of Fenetre d’Arpette, one of the highest points along the tour with dazzling views of the Trient glacier on the descent. Finish the day at the Col de la Forclaz restaurant, perhaps with time for a drink on their spacious outdoor terrace. After the hike, we’ll make a quick transfer back to our luxurious hotel in the Chamonix valley.
HIKE: 6-8 hours, 9 miles; Elevation: 2460 ft up, 2260 ft down (Bovine) or 7-9 hours, 9.5 miles; Elevation: 3940 ft up, 3740 ft down (Fenetre d’Arpette)

Day 9
Chamonix, hike to lac Blanc
One of the classic hikes in the region takes us to Lac Blanc, high above the village. This is a popular walk, and you’ll see why once you get up there.
This high-mountain lake sits in the Aiguilles Rouges, across the valley from Mont Blanc, and commands one of the greatest mountain views anywhere. We like to approach on a quieter trail from the Col des Montets before reaching the hut, and returning by cable car. Return to Chamonix.
HIKE: 6-8 hours, 6 miles; Elevation: 3020 ft. up, 1590 ft. down
- Breakfast
- Lunch

Day 10
Chamonix, hike to the Balme pass
We’ll have one last day in Chamonix, and plan to make the most of it. Although there are many great hikes to do from town, it makes a lot of sense to hike up to the Balme pass separating Switzerland from France. We love the route via the Aiguillette des Posettes ridge, completing your tour with gorgeous views of Mont Blanc and the Chamonix valley.
If you’d like an easier day, there are many cable cars up to stunning viewpoints, or you might choose to relax in town, book a massage, shop for souvenirs, and enjoy the good life in this lively mountain town. Celebrate the end of your tour with a fantastic farewell dinner at a favorite local restaurant.
