Explore France’s first National Park, the dramatic Vanoise, on this classic hike through the heart of the French Alps.
The Vanoise is a mountain region of contrasts… high peaks and glaciers, open alpine pastures, clear lakes and deep, quiet valleys. At its center lies France’s first national park, created in 1963 to protect this exceptional mountain environment. From Pralognan and the Tarentaise to the Haute Maurienne, each valley has its own character, yet all share the same sense of space and high peaks.
The center of the Vanoise is a protected landscape renowned for both its glaciers and abundant wildlife. During nine days of guided hikes, you will discover all the sides from the Vanoise area, while enjoying the comfort of village hotels. Each day brings a new landscape. Walk beneath glaciers, cross alpine pastures and pause beside mountain lakes, with the chance to spot marmots, chamois and ibex along the way.
This is a nice way to experience a great Alpine range, with big hikes and returning each evening to a comfortable hotel. Enjoy the atmosphere of some famous ski resorts in the Tarentaise side, and small mountain villages in the Maurienne side. A rewarding, varied trip, with the freedom to explore some of the most memorable viewpoints of the area, yet to take it easy some days if needed.
Your guide Aurélien has spent 15 years guiding the Vanoise including 2 summers working for the park. He will share the stories behind the landscapes, and help you notice details not always visible to those just following a trail.
